Prompt #1 || Take Off the Collar || Blog Post #2

Prompt #1 : Come up with a poem about an object/thing that describes you or another/made up person. (Use analogies, similes, metaphors, etc.)

Take off the collar - By Kendall Fry

I resemble a sad puppy.
I am told what to do, when to do it, and maybe I can have what I want.
I feel the weight of the collar on my shoulders.
I don't want to be controlled.
He holds me by a leash more than once a day.
Pulling me by my neck until I feel like I can't breath.
They resemble a noose.
The collar is feeling heavier now.
I can no longer keep my head up high.
I have disowned myself.

I see my kind frolicking around in freedom.
A vast meadow of opportunities.
They give me the strength to finally look up at him.
I need to take off my collar.
Take off my collar and get lost.
So lost that he will never find a trace of me ever again.
I'm not his bitch anymore.

I can stand on my own two feet now.
When I took off the collar, I was no longer his property.
I am free to discover any meadow I want.
I'm allowed to run.

We, as women, should not resemble a defenseless animal
We do not stay.
We do not sit.
And we definitely do not roll over.
We are our own property.
